Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to say as well that this is excellent blogging of your cattle reports and lookering.  You can see that there is an excellent record of the cattle being checked everyday with information on wehere they were and anything else to note.

All of his means this blog would be a perfect example as a case study for how this system works.

    Hello everyone,

In answer to a couple of your questions the black and white cow is called Jericho and is a Belted Galloway.

The Jersey cow is called Bambi.

The black/dark brown cow is a Gloucester and is called Muesli.

The other two cows are both Highlands and I have asked for their names to be told to me but am still waiting.  For the moment lets refer to them by their horns (normal and wonky).

As fro Bambi's udder and vulva, despite having been barren for a long time now her hormones will still prepare her regularly for mating even though their are no bulls on site.  This is proved by the fact cows are often seen tryiong to mount one another, known as bulling.  Her udder will swell and retract during her cycle aswell so if you keep an eye on this you should see it retract after a week or so. if it does not seem to do so then I will ask the farmer to come and have a look.
