And off they trotted for the winter!

The girls were mooooved to winter pastures this moring. They wished to pass on a BIG'OL thank youuuu for all your hard work, and that they really appreciated your time, care and attention. Morag wished to appologise for her appearance but then changed her mind and simply stated, "we all get old, deal with it!" Charming I thought.
No sighting this morning, it was early so perhaps they were tucked away out of the rain.

    Tuesday 14 October 11:15

Morag , Jericho and Crumple in the heather patch L6.  Looked ok standing miserably in the drizzle.  Melody nowhere in sight, but found her in K9.

    Monday, 13 October 2014

    A last minute appearance

I drove around Bramshot a couple of times without any luck and then found three not too far from the main railway track gate, ready to say goodbye before I left. Morag took a little time to catch up with the others. All seemed well.

    Saturday, 11 October 2014

All closely together in A7 at 10am, looking very wet bless them. All looked fine.

    Thursday, 9 October 2014

    re debbies post on 8/10/14

I visited the site twice yesterday first at 1pm and again at 8pm and all the girls seemed happy and were pretty much in the same place both times in k4 and l4 area . x

All 4 looking liking they couldn't care less ;)

Found all 4 together under a couple pines, 20 metres from the southern most path. Other than being wet, they looked fine. Morag's her achey looking self bless her.

    Sunday, 5 October 2014

All in B5 at 11am along the fence line.  Just looking around.  I thought it strange as there isn't much to eat around there, anyway they looked fine again today.

    Saturday, 4 October 2014

Pouring down this morning so I wasn't expecting to find them, nearly gave up when, there they were taking cover opposite the trough, along side the fence under the trees, D14/15 at 10:30am. They are not silly & didn't look wet at all lol. All looked fine.

    Friday, 3 October 2014

Tried calling the office several times today but no answer and as its not an emergency thought I'd blog instead. Just wanted to advise that the belt's been cut again on the swing gate by the water trough.  This is he same gate that Melody escaped through so although it appears to close, maybe someone might like to check on the next site visit...Thanks

    Wednesday 7pm

Further to Debbies post earlier.  I saw them all tonight.  Jericho and Melody LK12 and the highlands in M11, Morag was nearest to the others and Crumple quite a way away.  Not a good look as it was fairly dark.

    Tuesday 30 September 17:30

Melody grazing M7, others sitting chewing cud L7.  Looked fine.  Sorry about posting late.
At 11:30 I spotted Melody & Jericho (all ok) over in L4 so off we went to check on them but do you think we could find the Highlands? No!...searched for about half an hour and gave up as I had an appt. The Army had an Orienteering event on today so not sure if this is something they advise the trust about but there were no notices put up which there usually is...

Tuesday 30th September - Site Checks

I checked in on the girls today while doing site checks and found them all in I10. They were all looking really well and doing what they do best.

Checked the trough as well which is working fine.

    visited yesterday at 9.45am

All the girls were happily grazing on various different goodies in the area between the gate and the water trough. x

    Sunday, 28 September 2014

All together in F5 at 9am, heading down eating the grass.  Apart from lots of burs on the Highlands coat, all looked fine.

    Saturday, 27 September 2014

First saw the girls in I4 at 7:30am, all laying down apart from Crumple who was walking around.  They all looked quite contented.  Then we saw them again at 8:20am, wondering around eating the grass in E4 & E5. No problems from what I could see.

all the girls were really close together having a lie down in the fern in k8.It was an amusing sight all i could see was four heads poking out above the fern. x

    Cattle checked and gate fixed

Checked the cattle yesterday afternoon and all well. Had a really good walk around teh site assessing forage levels. Happy to keep girls out there for another month but will check fortnightly now in case the grass levels drop off dramatically. spoke to grazier abou this and she is happy with this plan. Fixed the gate in th car park with a new inner tube as the last one was cut!

Forgot to say I saw 3 woodlark on site as well which is fan-dabby-tactic!

    Wednesday, 24 September 2014

All the girls were together in I12 at 8am this morning.  All were sitting down chewing the cud except for Morag who was standing.  I was very pleased to see her back leg was straight although I didn't get to see her walking and she appeared quite contented after Sue & I saw her yesterday looking quite lame and feeling sorry for herself.  Just saw Mike's comment so hopefully whatever the Grazer did yesterday has helped. I also noticed that the rubber belt has been cut again on the swing gate in F3. I will call the office and report this as my concern is that it is close to the railway/road etc.

    Morag

Hello. The grazier went out to give Morag a thorough checking over yesterday and is happy that apart from old age and stiffness there are no other problems. She hinted that it might be the last year that Morag was out on a heathland due to mobility issues. Thanks for keeping an eye on her and please let us know if she gets worse. Mike

    Saturday, 20 September 2014

All quite close together along the verges in M13 at 10am this morning, eating the grass.  Nice to see Morag with them too.  I did see Jo's comment from yesterday and so watched Morag for a few minutes but although she was slow I didn't notice anything worse than usual. Fingers crossed bless her.

I carried on looking and found her in g14 just in the woods there. I watched her for about 10 mins and she was heading towards the othes but very slowly indeed,i think she was limping heavily, every minute or two she was mooing really loudly to let the others know she was coming. Bless her life seems a struggle for her sometimes. x

    Wednesday, 10 September 2014

Just saw Sue's blog but not sure when it refers to, maybe yesterday?  Today (Wednesday) the girls were between H4/H5 this morning at 8:30.  I watched them for 10 mins, they didn't move much as they were eating the grass but Morag did look tired dragging her hooves very slowly again but we know why this is so I was not too worried.  The others all looked fine. Trough ok too.
All grazing along the track near the Pystock gate Melody N14, others M15.  All looked well, Melody still has a few tears down her face but much better than it has been.

    Counted, contented

All four were in the middle of the site after lunch this afternoon. All looked content and well, enjoying the beautiful day. The self closing gate in the South is holding up now the slamming post is in. I did find trashed grazing signs (clearly ripped off) on one of the North East gates. Shame.

    Sunday, 7 September 2014

All in K7 at 8:50 this morning. Crumple with Morag standing with heads down eating the grass.  Melody (sitting) with Jericho who was laying down, which I don't see that often but her tail was wagging so I assumed she was ok. No problems from what I could see & no flies about yet.

    Saturday, 6 September 2014

Waiting for me at the entrance they were, at 9:45 this morning.  In E/D4, they were still there over an hour later as we left. Mainly eating the grass but also trying to get to the acorn leaves on branches quite high up which was funny to watch.  Couldn't  see any real problems but Crumple & Morag did have lots of small burs on the coat which I wasn't able to remove.

I saw them last night in l11 and today they are in exactly the same place, laying happily under the trees. Melody has lovely lately, she has been coming right over to me as if she wants a cuddle,so a little pat has to surfice. x

    Wednesday, 27 August 2014

Well...they were definately challenging me this morning lol. Walked round for over an hour before I spotted Melody (being white was helpful) who was on her own at 9:20 in H7 just off the gate/path. I then spent another 10 mins before I found the others together at 9:30 coming out of the bracken on the edge of F6. All 4 had heads down eating the grass.  All looked fine apart from they looked a little damp with all the rain we had but no issues that I could see.

    Tuesday, 26 August 2014

    Tuesday 26 August 1pm

All L7 Melody standing, others sitting.  The rain had finally stopped, was pouring earlier when I failed to find them.  Looked fine.

    Sunday, 24 August 2014

All together in L9 at 8:30 this morning.  Heads down eating grass, didn't even bother to look up at us when i said hello lol. All looked good.

    Saturday, 23 August 2014

All in H12 at 7:50am, eating the grass at the side of the road/track.  Got so close I could have touched them (don't worry Elliot, I didn't lol).  All looked great, no flies although it was a little chilly this morning, I expect thats why.  I didn't see any problems with eyes either.

    Cattle found and gates upgraded

Hello all, The four girls were all relaxing out on the open heather heath which was lovely to see as the sun was setting. They were all good and their eyes were nice and clear. I made some repairs to the gate down near to the trough. It should help it close a bit better and latch properly. I then replaced the broken sign on the gate next to the cattle grid in the car park and also adjusted the gate so this also latches properly now. Nice to see the site again....I miss getting out there as much as I used too! Elliott

    Wednesday, 20 August 2014

11:15am I eventually found the girls, Melody on her own in K4 head down chewing away.  I didn't get chance to see her eye although having seen it a little weepy over the last couple of days which also didn't appear to be bothering her, I was not too concerned. The others were all together in J3, Morag was just standing looking around.  Crumple standing, chewing the cud and Jericho was sitting.  There were so many flies on her face and especially around her left eye again, she seemed really bothered by them today.

    Tuesday, 19 August 2014

    Tuesday 19 August 8:30am

Crumple and Jericho in the bracken G6, Melody and Morag near gate F7.  The bracken is eye level, I nearly missed them.  Melody was helpfully eating stinging nettles on the outside of the fenced area, so I got a good look at her eye, looked OK but there is still a trace of tear mark down her cheek.  (It is amazing the way they carefully thread their heads through the barbed wire.)

    Sunday, 17 August 2014

    Sunday 17 August 5pm

All sitting close together L12.  Melody's left eye running again but not worse than it was before, also I noticed Jericho's lump.

    Wednesday, 13 August 2014

Having said I would not be going to Bramshot Heath this week, I did today.  At approx 15:10 we spotted Morag on her own in D15, head down eating the grass.  She appeared to move slowly but all looked ok with her movement.   The others were walking along eating grass now and again in H12, some way infront of Morag. All looked fine though.

Monday 12th August - Site Check (Late Post)

Did a site check of Bramshot Heath today and found the four girls grazing in the centre of the heath. They were all looking very well.

I have re-tied the self closer in the gate nearest the trough but will revisit it later this week to make another more permanent repair.

A few small branches had come down on the fence in a couple of places so I removed them and made sure the fences were all in good order.

    Sunday, 10 August 2014

All in I6 this morning at 10:30 amongst the tall fir trees. I didn't get a close up as it was pouring down! But at least they appeared ok from a distance.

    Saturday

All in L9 at 14:25, Melody on her own one side of the track with he others all sitting the other side under the big Oak trees keeping out of the sun.  All were chewing the cud and looking quite happy. Didn't notice any issues.

    Wednesday, 6 August 2014

At 8:25am, we found the girls quite spread out (unusual) but anyway, Crumple on her own eating grass in I4, Morag on her own on the path in K4 eating grass & looking around. Jericho & Melody together deep in the woods in J3. I managed to get close to them (eventually)!  Jericho did have lots of flies on her back but were not bothering her & Melody's right eye looked ok with just some watery streaks underneath & no flies. No other issues from what I could see today.

    Tuesday, 5 August 2014

    Watering eyes update.

Just to let you all know that I had a message from the Grazier this morning: the fluid loss from the eyes is usual for this time of year and the flies are naturally drawn to it.

So for now it's nothing to worry about too much but if you do see any of the symptoms worsening then please do keep us informed.

    Thanks

    Rich.

    Tuesday 5 August 8am

Melody and Jericho grazing.  Melody's eyes look OK this morning, not sure if she had just wiped them or there has been treatment.  Morag was licking the underside of Crumple, I can't imagine what it would be like to have all that hair in your mouth, but maybe it is not unlike eating grass.  All in L8.
NB. I am away next week.

    Eyes reported to grazier

I went to Bramshot at lunchtime and checked on Melody's eyes and agree that they do look rather tear-stained. I reported back to the office and Guy gave the grazier a call to let her know. The others all looked comfortable and curious. I also put out some Looker posters and mended the self-closure on the gate which had been cut or had snapped(?).

    visited today @5.30.

All the girls were happily munching away in o3/4.Jericho was scratching her self on low trees very cute. I am still worried about melodys eye as there is a large wet area down the right side of her face, altho when i saw her on saturday it didnt seem so bad but now it is worse again.I didnt call the office because it didnt seem like an emergancy and i know i moaned a bit about communication but only because i have had quite a few concerns and questions in the past that havent been answered. x

    Catching up

Hello all, I am just catching up on what has been happeneing whilst I was on holiday last week. Having read your blogs I will find out tomorrow from the rest of theh go team whether anyone has read your blog on Friday about the eye. The blog is checked everyday but may have been done before you blogged in the afternoon. No one checks on weekends so this is the first time I expect it will have been read. Please could I ask that all future concerns about live stocks health or welfare be reported by phone to the office on 01256 381190. This is the best and quickest way to ensure that things like this are picked up. It will also enable us to react immediately if needed. As for Morag I recall a few weeks back hearing that Guy had spoken to the owner, Liz Miller, who said that her arthritis is getting worse which will explain why she is dragging her feet more and they are catching each other as she walks. Liz is aware of it and keeping an eye on her. She is one of Liz's special girls! Thanks all Elliott

The girls were in L9 at 9:55, sitting under the big oak tree, chewing the cud. All looked fine, they looked quite contented.

    Lump on Belted Galloways back

Hello All, I visited today to check the livestock and noticed a walnut sized lump on the back of the belted Galloway. It was receiving attention from flies so I contacted the grazier to let them know. They replied to say she had a similar lump last year but they would investigate later today anyway. Other than that they all looked really good. I had chance to have a walk around the site a bit and monitor the heaths regeneration which I have to say is looking amazing. Keep up the good work all Elliott

    Sunday, 13 July 2014

They were very kind to us again today.  They were in I10/11 at 8:30 this morning, heads down chewing away at the short grass. Not too many flies about and they were not bothered by us walking between them at all.  All looked good to me.

    Saturday, 12 July 2014

They were kind to me today...At 7:30am, we followed them along the track from H12 all the way down to the water trough in D15 so I got a good look at how they were doing.  Apart from all the flies, Jericho did look very bloated, Morag was walking ok & keeping up with the others but her hoofs were dragging, even her back two were clipping each other whilst walking. Not sure if she needs a check as I've seen other posts that mention something similar with Morag's walking...

I was on the site at 4pm. I fixed the bridle gate near the south cattle grid to make it self-closing, afte the escape at the weekend. I walked round the whole perimeter of the site, but saw neither hide nor hair of them.
First duty back after holiday and unfortunately no sighting today. I walked around twice but the braken it so high now I just couldn't see them but did see that yesterday so know they are fine.

Hopefully im just being paraniod but can we keep a closer eye on her please.x

I have never seen her look like that and i was very concerned.I have left a voicemail at the office and as its my day tomorrow anyway i'll take extra care to check her.Heres hoping she looks better tomorrow. W hen i saw her yesterday i remember thinking she doesnt look very fat for this time of year. x

    Melody Returns...

As an update to me previous post - Melody has now been returned to Bramshot Heath.

    Melody AWOL - Temporarily!

Apologies for not posting this yesterday.

Melody managed to find her way out of Bramshot Heath yesterday and navigated her way down to Pondtail. Due to the heat and the long walk she'd just done I took the decision to not try and move her back onto Bramshot Heath and instead, put her onto the Pondtail reserve. This was agreed with the grazier who will be picking Melody up today and taking her back to Bramshot Heath to rejoin the others.

I couldn't find any fence breaks and believe the gate next to the cattle grid that leads onto the Pondtail track had been left open, fortunately Melody was the only one who found it!

    Cattle all well

I was on site today so I caught up with the cattle. All 4 were in the middle of the heath doing a good job grazing. All looked well, although the belty was getting mobbed by flies. Cheers

Finally found them tucked in a thicket in D5, looked fine, chewing the cud, Morag standing others sitting.  I have never found them in that spot before and nearly tripped over them.  It is getting more difficult with the bracken growing so fast.
I am away next week, so no Tuesday looking.

    All laying up in K10

I visited the site today to check the girls and carry out a reptile survey. the girls were all laying in the shad in K10 under the big oaks. They all looked good, clean and tick free from what I could see which is great news. I found 1 grass snake and four slow worms as well for those of you interested. Elliott

All were gazing happily in H7 this morning around 8:20.  No issues but as Sue has commented, there is quite a lot of foxglove around at the moment and although it does look pretty I believe it is poisonous so should we be concerned?

    Tuesday, 10 June 2014

    Tuesday 10 June 8:30am

All peacefully grazing in the sunshine J11.  They haven't moved far from I11, where they were grazing about 12 hours ago, yesterday evening.  Morag was hiding behind a clump of bracken, which is growing like mad.  Are there any plans to control it this year?  There are also quite a few foxgloves in that area, I don't recall noticing them before, I don't suppose they are good for cows either.

Lets play hide & seek for Debbie today! We started our walk around 8:30am heading to the middle gate in B6. Spent the next hour & a half walking around looking for the girls.  Nowhere to be seen, I even asked several other dog walkers and no-one had seen them. Almost gave up & headed back to the car park via the way we came ie via B6.  To my surprise there was Jericho & Morag in B6 with Melody in B7, no sign of Crumple though so guess she wasn't too far away.  All looked fine bless them.

    Cattle checked

Hello all, I visited the site today to check the cattle and carry out a reptile survey. I could only find two cows (Moiley and Morag) and also only found two snakes (1 adder and 1 grass snake). In the process of looking for the other two I was called away to repair a broken strainer but assume they are both well and just sheltering from the blustery wind. Also found another new population of about 200 sundew plants which was nice to see. That now makes about 600 on site! Elliott

    Maps now available again

Apologies for the broken links to the looker maps, this was as a result of our new website going live. I have updated the links and they should be working again now. If you cannot access the maps then please let me know.

    Thanks

    Rich.

At 13:20 the girls were in D15. Jericho & Melody heads down together one side of the trough, with Morag (head down) & Crumple (laying) the other side.  All looked fine on the lovely sunny afternoon. On my way and i decided to cut inside the meadow for a change and so pleased I did.  what a lovely surprise (again) when we spotted a large deer (not sure if Roe deer as it looked much larger than those we saw last week) bounding across the open meadow. We watched as it eventually ran into the woods but too quick for me so didn't get a photo this time.  So great to see though.

Daisy taken back to farm for treatment

Hello. The grazier has removed Daisy and taken her back to the farm fro treatment. Thanks for keeping an eye on her.

    visited at 2pm

oh and the others where in m5 n5.x

    worried

i visited yesterday evening around 7 and all the girls were togetherish although daisy did seem to be hobbling badly[the muscle definition on her back legs has really deminished but she has arthritus and that is a trait].But today i have looked every where ,i did read debbies post before i went so i made an extra special effort and searched the perimitter for 1 1/2 hours, with no luck,i asked everyone and even gave my number to a lady who called me to say she'd had a proper search to no avail.Where is she,im going to call and see if she may have been taken away and then im going back armed with the kids. x
Thought I'd blog today as I was over there and that we are keeping a close eye on Daisy.  At 9:15 we spotted the 4 girls in the distance, across the open meadow, they were in L8 with heads down walking around huddled together and looking good (I checked them once I got closer to them).  I then carried on walking looking for Daisy. She was laying in L3 facing the railway line so really not bothered about where the others might be. I did get close to her and she looked at me ok but I decided to leave her there and not get her up (not sure if this was the right decision).  Hopefully someone will spot them again later and they will be altogether again.

    25th April

Sorry about the late post I had internet issues!
25th April all the girls were at K14/15  under the trees as it was raining
    They all looked happy

    Daisy's leg

Hello. An update about Daisy. A member of the public reported that Daisy seemed to be lame, we know that she has arthritis and is a little slower than the rest. We let the grazier know and she has been to check and informed us that one of her legs is a little worse than usual. She has been given some pain killers and will be monitored by the grazier over the weekend. Cheers

At 9:15 all the girls except for Daisy were in G13 & H13, slowly making their way towards the water trough.  They all looked fine. I then spent the next 45 mins looking for Daisy to no avail. I'm guessing she's laying down in the hedge somewhere...

    Sunday, 20 April 2014

Early start this morning so first saw the girls at 7:15 quite spread out.  Melody in G4, Jericho & Morag apart in I4, Crumple on her own in I5. All 4 standing/walking chewing away. Then I had to hunt for Daisy! eventually found her in J3 laying down. Thought is a little strange to see them so spread out but carried on with my walk.  2nd lap (8:10am) I found the 4 again close together in F6 but again no sign of Daisy! She was still laying where I saw her earlier in J3. Concerned about her so made her stand.  She appeared very very stiff and walked very slow but I managed to get her to walk towards the others. Took about 20 mins but was very pleased she seemed to understand me lol.  Can we please keep a close eye on her as I was under the impression she was more mobile this year so far bless her...

    Cattle added to Pondtail

Hello, just a note to let you all know that we also now have cattle on Pondtail - the heath between Wood Lane heath (Hart DC land) and the canal. We put 3 heifers on yesterday, with 2 more and a bull to come over the next week. I know many of you know others who walk in the area so please feel free to let them know they are back for the summer. The cattle there are our own Trust herd of British Whites. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks Laura

No sighting of the girls today even though I looked for over an hour so they must be hiding from the sunshine.  We did see 2 small Roe Deer out in the big meadow which was so lovely to see.  We watched them for some 10 mins as they were jumping about without a care in the world.  All, please note that I have called the office this afternoon to report that I was unable to view the aerial photos of the Heath on the blog, so Jack will pass this onto the team and hopefully get its sorted asap.

After failing to see any of them this morning in the mist, I found them this afternoon looking fine and mainly grazing on the bramble.  It was quite a search because I went the wrong way round.

The Irish Mollied, who I have decided to call Molly was in H7.  The Belted Galloway, Jericho and the Black Highland, Morag were in G7 and the two Red Highlands, Daisy and Crumple were on the road between the cattle grids,  F6.

I reported the fly tipping in the carpark to the office this morning and Guy has told Landmarc whose responsibility it is.

Lovely to see all 5 cows back,if not a few pounds lighter lol.Saw the chilling out some lying some standing in the middle of the heath field near the group of pines,im going to need another map as mine has disappeared. I didn't get too close as i want my puppys to get used to them slowly and not bark at them, which i might add is what i fully expected today, but thank god they only barked a little.

    Saturday, 15 March 2014

We spotted the girls walking along the muddy track in H10 at 9am this lovely morning.  We followed them for about 15 mins all the way down to the trough in D15. They all looked fine, Daisy taking up the rear as usual but her back leg didn't look as bad as last year. So good to see them back.

    Cattle Back on Site

Guy and I were over at Bramshott today. We had a few fence repairs to do which all went without any hitches. At the end of the repairs we met Miller's Ark who had just dropped 5 cattle off on the site. They seemed happy to be there and went off exploring the site. We also checked reptile tins and felts. Most of the felts are no longer serviceable. We found a nicely marked adder under a tin. We listened out for woodlarks, but only heard a distant skylark.

Tuesday 13th August - All Cows Off Site

Hi All,  We've moved the 3 cattle down the track to Pondtail now.  Thanks again for all your help keeping an eye on them.  Best wishes  ...
