Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

     Thursday 29th September @ 11-15am

All four cows looking very content and in excellent condition, munching happily.

The trough was full but I thought a little scummy on the surface. Perhaps the cows had just had a drink.

    Tuesday 20th September

I don’t want to ‘milk’ it but they’re getting harder to find!!  All four found although took some searching this morning. Found in some dense bush area to right of main path.

    Sunday, 18 September 2022

    Sunday

A long walk round. Trough OK  Cows then by gate on the way out! All in fine condition. Teasel grazing grass, the boys hoovering up fallen acorns off the track.

    Thursday, 15 September 2022

     Thursday 15th September @10-45am

    The trough was full.

I could only find two cows today although I enjoyed another hour walking around looking for the missing two cows,160 and 2088.

Both cows 175 and 75, inquisitively  munching happily away and appeared healthy and well.

    Monday 12th September

A no show for me this morning for the 2nd week running 😕.  Trough full and clear.

Noticed that the car park surface at Hartland Country Park is wearing again making for a very bumpy ride. Not sure who to report that to?

    Thursday, 8 September 2022

All four cows present and correct, munching away happily at 10-15am

A check on each just showed a contented cow, not even a fly to bother them as it was “Monsoon” style rain.

    Thursday 8th September.

All four cows seen and checked as part of weekly site checks by staff.

All four were found happily chewing up by the trough. #75 with his cut on the left flank: cut seems to have scabbed over but still being pestered by a few flies. Will continue to monitor and treat if necessary.
Gave them a few cattle nuts to keep them sweet and left them to it. All seems well, rain now keeping the majority of flies away!

    Wednesday, 7 September 2022

Unable to find cattle at 11am, it was raining heavily and I suspect they were sheltering in the bracken.

    Monday, 5 September 2022

    Sunday, 4 September 2022

    Sunday

Cows lying cudding in L10. #160 has signs of a weepy right eye. Flies around minor scratch on #75's right flank. Quite a lot of flies on them all but generally look good. Trough OK.

    Thursday, 1 September 2022

I was surprised to be “greeted” by Cow 175 as I walked onto  the heath. She was standing by herself, quite some distance from the other three cows, but she seemed content; apart from the usual flies bothering her eyes. A little discharge I think.

The three other cows just munching away happily, no problems.

    The trough was full.
