Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

Friday 12th December - Staff Call Out/114 Dyers Weed

    Hi all,

Responded to a call this afternoon of a tree down on fence and blood on a cow.

Tree chainsawed off fence and stapled back up.
114 Dyers Weed was bleeding on her right hip, with a small gouge wound.
    Sprayed with green spray.
    Otherwise well in herself.
    All other cows good.
Please keep an eye on her wound.

Also several signs on gates vandalised, I replaced a couple with the stock I had in truck but would be grateful if you could blog if any others are damaged.

    Have a good weekend

    Friday 12th December

Unable to locate the ladies today. The No Fence placed them deep in the gorse but lots of the area is virtually impassible - to me at any rate!

Noticed that only 3 are showing up on No Fence so maybe 1 has slipped a collar?

    Trough clear.

Tuesday 7th October - TB Test + collars

    Hi All

The vet came today and carried out the TB test injection

All three girls were refitted with their collars, fingers crossed they'll keep them on!

They were a bit of a handful today so the livestock team are coming back tomorrow and Thursday to feed them in the hopes they'll be more bid-able for Fridays test read. Please carry out your lookering as normal apart from Friday!

Most importantly,  keep an eye on the Blogger for updates - I'm away from Thursday and back on Monday 20th so my colleagues will be updating the Blog!

    Thank you

    Monday, 6 October 2025

Monday 6th October - please note

The No Fence app alerted me at 11pm last night that the two cows with collars have not moved in some time. Therefore the locations shown on the virtual map may not be correct.
Hopefully they've just both slipped their collars. We will be down this morning to check on them.

Update: 12.44 - have collected thrown collars. Unfortunately this means none of the girls have collars on currently.
Will be refitting tomorrow during TB test.

    Cheers, Zoe

Friday 26th September - Udder update

Weds 24th - check for swollen udder

Bonus staff check to look at 114's swollen udder. It is very enlarged, but it doesn't look red or inflamed. She also doesn't seem bothered by it.

If people checking over the next few days could keep an extra eye on it that would be great. I've attached some photos below of what it looks like at the moment - if you notice it getting more red or looking inflamed, and/or notice a change in behaviour (stamping and kicking more, less relaxed) then let us know via the blog, and we will make a decision on whether she needs further treatment

    Thanks all!

Weds 24th Oct - still enlarged udder

All four grazing together at lunchtime today, near ///grad.requiring.forms.

114 still has the enlarged teat Michael saw on Sunday (pic below). All were being a bit bothered by flies but seemed content.

Sun 21st September- cows being worried by dogs

All cows sitting by the southern cattle grid but being worried by 2 dogs off the lead. Female put dogs on lead eventually but was very abusive to me. Cows looked OK once the dogs had gone.

    Enlarged teat

114 has one of her 4 teats enlarged. No sign of weeping or discharge that I could see. The other’s look good hovering up acorns

    Friday 19th September

All 4 found in the woodland area, near the railway track at 11.00am, W3W: skipped.debit.regress

Delia, (108), seems to have several ticks around the udder area on her left side - see photo. Probably at least 6.

Ginseng, (216), and Dyers Weed, (114) were bothered by lots of flies. So many I thought they were markings at first!
