Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Monday 30 April

Cattle all happily grazing on ling or grass in the cleared area north of the trough. The trough is OK and excess water tipped out of the lick bucket and cake bowls. The lick is less than 20% used, the cakes are both about half used.

    1. Im just wondering about the "all black" cow, my dogs were not bothering but he/she didnt seem to like one of mine going by her at all (he is just a tiny shih tzu) no barking, no growling but she sort of snorted through her nose a couple of times, made us very cautious! We love them being there but it did put our guard up the dogs aren't unruly, didn't go too close or anything like that.

    2. Hello,

It is difficult to say what the block cow (she is female and called Muelsli) was stressing about but the image you painted was one of warning as opposed to actual aggression. Like all animals a cow will rather warn something off rather than just attack it and it sounds as though Muesli was doing just that. We oftemn find that when there seems to be an unprovked incident like this it is actually a reaction on the cows behalf to an incident which may have happened previously. For example another dog similar to yours may have hassled it or another dog full stop may have given grief only 5 minutes previoulsy. I can only apologise and suggest keeping a bit mroe distance to this individual when with your dog until she appears to show no 'special interest' to either of you.
