Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Visited 10.30 this morning. Army training with gunfire and smoke around J6/K6. Not very appropriate with public, dog walkers and cows nearby!! Found cows at I3/J3 near railway line. Quite happy grazing, not bothered by gunfire ( about 300 to 400 yards away). All 3 moving in and around bushes grazing on new grass. No sign of any injuries or problems.

    1. With the land being owned by the mod solely for use as an area to train their soldiers, it was always agreed that our efforts to manage the land for conservation would come second fiddle to soldiers practising for war.

We often have the choice to take the cattle off when training is imminent but we beleive they adapt very quickly too it. The mod are also at liberty to evict the public from the land at a moments notice to enable their training go unhindered. This however I feel is a war they may not win so have no desire to start.

The main point is they are using the piece of land for training which in my eyes means they see it as a valuable piece of real estate and will therefore be reluctant to sell it for housing. If this were to change then the cattle and people would both be evicted as it were developed into yet more homes!!!!

    2. Thanks Elliot - understood. My concern was for the cows, I had visions of a cattle stampede.
A passing dog walker and i were the only ones bothered. the cows are very very docile and not at all phased by the gunfire. I am happy to tolerate a bit or army training to keep this bit of land free from housing.
