Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Looked at 11.00. Still browsing around entrance by railway. All looked relaxed and showed no interest in passing dogs and dog-walkers.
All fit and well at 0900hrs by the main entrance browsing bramble.

    Tuesday, 28 March 2017

All good and trough cover found.

i popped in this afternoon to do a bit of surveying and cattle lookering.

The girls were all stood near to the trough so it must have been a similar time that I saw them to Jo.  They were all looking well and were getting the earl you grass shoots along the track.

I am well happy with myself that I managed to find the vandalised water trough tap cover.  I fixed and then re-fitted it so let it be known to those who vandalised it that those who laugh last, laugh loudest!

I followed this with a tour of the site looking for reptiles under the tins and in known hotspots.  I was really pleased to find 6 adders (4male 2female) which included two juveniles.  I also found 4 slow works, 1 of which was also a juvenile.  This is important as it shows they are still breeding on site and over wintering here which is really valuable.

Also pleased to report that the Woodlarks are back on site apparently, although did not see or hear them myself.

    Lovely afternoon

All found hoovering up bramble and birch leaf around the troughs fence line.

All looking exceedingly well for this time of year! Not a bad retirement home eh 😊

Found the dead fox bless'im. What a stunning animal. I have taken it closer to the central heath off the beaten track where it might decompose properly. That carcass will be feeding a multitude of insects and inverts let alone carrion. Its about to become a mini eco-system! 😊

12:50 21 March Cattle going for a drink

Came into the reserve at D16, passing a couple walking about 7 dogs, some off leads.  As I  crossed the cattle grid into the reserve, a black spaniel type chased me, but was called back.
Went along track through E15 to F16, to see the 3 girls walking purposefully along the main track in E14 towards the dogs.  Tried to divert the cattle away from the dogs, but they were having none of it.  They kept going towards the dogs in D15, so I walked alongside the leader to keep an eye on what was going on.  The dog-walkers now decided to put their dogs on leads then go through the gate into the field at C15.   Meanwhile, the cattle turned off to the left to go to the trough.  Trough full, cattle looked relaxed.

Checked trough - it was full and operating correctly. Glorious sunny day - saw first brimstone butterfly - spring is here!!

    Tuesday, 14 March 2017

    Seen today at 3pm

All three laying down and resting just up from the portaloo in the center of the heath field. Is the other portaloo to the left hand side of the heath field ever going to be stood back up? Only the gross stuff in it not to mention all the chemicals that must have leaked out. It's been over for weeks if not months now. X
