Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

12:50 21 March Cattle going for a drink

Came into the reserve at D16, passing a couple walking about 7 dogs, some off leads.  As I  crossed the cattle grid into the reserve, a black spaniel type chased me, but was called back.
Went along track through E15 to F16, to see the 3 girls walking purposefully along the main track in E14 towards the dogs.  Tried to divert the cattle away from the dogs, but they were having none of it.  They kept going towards the dogs in D15, so I walked alongside the leader to keep an eye on what was going on.  The dog-walkers now decided to put their dogs on leads then go through the gate into the field at C15.   Meanwhile, the cattle turned off to the left to go to the trough.  Trough full, cattle looked relaxed.
